Settlement Agreement Resolves Potential Race Discrimination Claim

Mr P found that he was being treated increasingly unfavourably on the grounds of his race and this ultimately led to his ill health and being signed off on long term sick leave. Mr P had not raised a formal grievance detailing in writing his complaints to his employers, but his employers recognised the potential for a costly race discrimination claim. They therefore offered to conclude his employment by way of a Settlement Agreement.

Mr P sought help from Slee Blackwell’s Employment Team as to whether he should accept the Settlement Agreement. A specialist Settlement Agreement solicitor explained that although he did indeed have a valid legal claim, rejecting the proposed Settlement Agreement to bring such a claim would not be a quick or easy process. Mr P therefore decided to accept the Settlement Agreement under which he received almost £6,000 compensation.
